Frame-Free Vision with Contact Lenses

More people are turning to contact lenses than ever before. However, there’s a lot more to contact lenses than just placing them on your eyes.

There is no “one size fits all,” answer for contact lenses, and each lens has to fit the specific requirements of each eye.

So, what do you need to do if you want to start wearing contact lenses? The very first step is to book an eye exam with your optometrist and tell them your interest in contact lenses.

We’ll help you achieve spectacular vision without the spectacles! Visit our optometrists in Colorado Springs to learn more about whether contact lenses are right for you.

Getting Your Contact Lenses

To determine if you can wear contact lenses, you first need to have an eye exam. Contact lenses aren’t for everyone or every lifestyle, and during the eye exam, we’ll take a comprehensive look into your eye health and visual acuity to see what contacts could provide for you.

Some people may find that they’re not eligible for contact lenses for multiple reasons:

  • You may live or work in a dusty, dry, or dirty climate
  • You may experience regular or severe allergic reactions
  • You have had a history of eye infections
  • You have an unbalanced or compromised tear film
  • You have a specific eye condition that requires a treatment other than contact lenses

The fitting helps determine the size of contacts you need while also taking a variety of measurements of your eye.

Depending on what we find during the fitting, we can offer different specialty contact lenses to match your needs. Once we’ve fitted your contacts, we’ll give you a couple of pairs to test out during the trial period.

The trial period will be as long as your optometrist recommends. In some cases, the trial period may only take about 10 or 20 minutes, but they may also take a few weeks.

No matter the length, the trial period helps determine how well your eyes adjust to wearing contact lenses. If you start to notice irritation or inflammation in your eyes while wearing contact lenses, please remove them and contact your optometrist as soon as you can.

If you’re wearing specialty contact lenses to help manage conditions like myopia, your optometrist may want to follow-up appointments to take a look at how well your eyes are adjusting to the lenses.
